These young watermelon plants are all just a few days a part in their growth stages. If you look closely, you can see the plants’ seeds still on their leaves. Rather than planting the seed directly into the field, some of our plants (like peppers, tomatoes and watermelon) are started at Diamonds Greenhouse in Springville, UT. Once they reach a certain stage, they are ready to be planted in our fields.

Did you know the timing of when we want our fruits and vegetables ready for harvest all depends on how and when we plant their seeds? Some seeds need to be planted in a greenhouse, so the seeds can germinate in conditions that foster healthy young plants and also gives a jump start on growth when the weather is still too cold. We time the planting of everything exactly, so there are freshly-picked fruit and vegetables every week during the harvest season!
